This model was designed for the Tribes: Ascend beta art contest which it won second place.
I designed the Children of the Phoenix off of the t1 version (the concept art at least). I liked the the plate colors and etchings of the t2 version and then made more realistic to fall in line with the art style of Hi-Rez’s Tribes Ascend. I studied the previous versions and the changes hi-rez made in their models to come up with this design. I made sure that the armor and silhouette would be different enough from the other teams.
FUN FACT: When Hi-Rez studio’s built their Children of the Phoenix themed maps they pulled design elements in the maps that I used in my version of the model such as the use of arcs and curves on the armor and general color scheme.
After settling on a design that I wanted I started the modeling phase. It took a while to finalize the helmet design.
I decided to try a different style of modeling this time to get things done as quick as possible due to the deadline. I built the mesh in pieces and then stitched them together afterwards then sculpted in zbrush and baked maps.

This is after I fused the parts together. Incidentally the techniques I used to fuse them reminded me of a technique I learned a long time ago thanks to via SplineGod
This is the final image submitted to the contest! I am proud of how it came out to honor my favorite games of all time, the Tribes series!
This last image is in reference to the infamous fish-patch which added mackerels to broadside.
Happy modeling!
